Summer School in South Carolina

"Doing Business in the United States” was the first CIDD summer school and has become one of our core activities for students from CIDD member schools. For this three-week, EUR 1,500.00 course, CIDD offers up to ten stipends - from EUR 300.00 to EUR 1,000.00!

The course takes place at Coastal Carolina University from 18 July to 7 August, 2010.
The Program: This program will focus on the development of a better understanding of the social and business

environment of the United States of America.  The program will include a combination of lectures, discussions, case studies, and field trips to provide a multifaceted approach to understanding the evolution and current conditions of business within the United States.  Professors will be drawn from a variety of fields to provide a multidisciplinary focus for the program. Field trips will include visits to local companies and day trips to international business concerns.
The Location: Coastal Carolina University is located approximately 12 kilometers from the ocean at the tourist destination of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, USA.  The region is located on the Atlantic Coast approximately one half the distance between New York and Miami, and is served by air at the Myrtle Beach International Airport (Airport Designator: MYR).  The region is one of the most popular family vacation destinations in the United States, with approximately 13 million tourists per year, who come to enjoy the beach, golf, shopping, and other recreational activities in the area.  Other businesses, including Beneteau of France, AVX of Japan, International Paper, Wolverine Brass, and others also have locations in the region, and there is an important effort underway to continue to diversify the economic base of the region.
The University: Coastal Carolina University has approximately 8,100 students and has grown dramatically since its independence in 1993.  Coastal Carolina University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the baccalaureate and master’s degrees. The University offers a comprehensive campus with recreational facilities, library, and technology services widely available to all students. The University’s athletics programs provide competitive programs in sports for women and men, and have placed extremely high in National Collegiate Athletic Association competitions.  The AACSB accredited E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration is home to approximately 2,000 students pursuing majors in the following areas:  Accounting, Finance, Management, Marketing, Management-Resort Tourism Management, Management-International Tourism Management, and Marketing-Professional Golf Management.  Please visit the University’s webpage at http://www.coastal.edu for more information.
COURSE CONTENTS: 
The course includes lectures and seminars, case studies, student presentations, company visits and a cultural and social program (e.g. discussion with CCU students on educational systems, baseball game, trip to Charleston SC, etc.). Topics are (examples)
- Overview of US business history
- Legal environment of business in the U.S.
- Organizational structures, corporate governance and finance of U.S. businesses
- International business ethics and US applications
- Education and Human Resources
