Student Conference on Cross-Cultural Management

The CIDD International Student Conference on “Cross-Cultural Management” is regularly hosted by the Fachhochschule Mainz - University of Applied Science. The 2011 conference will take place from May 18 to May 22. Students from CIDD member universities who wish to participate: Please contact judith.busch@fh-mainz.de
More than 50 students from European CIDD member universities and Coastal Carolina University (CCU) work on international business case studies. Students’ cultural backgrounds read like a journey around the world:

Chinese, Thai, Russian, Belorussian, different EU nationals, US Americans, Latin Americans from Venezuela, Mexico, and Argentina learned and worked together in a variety of lectures, seminars and cases. The social programme includes a half-day excursion to the UNESCO world heritage middle-Rhine valley with its medieval castles and towns. Even more important than the academic programme itself is the first-hand experience the students gain from working together in international teams: “It was the first time in my life that I worked with so many people from so many different countries. It is amazing how different our working styles are - and how great it is to combine all of them in working groups”, as one of the 2010 participants stated. “I thought Germans are rigid and Americans arrogant - but it’s completely different”, a student from Eastern Europe said. “I have never been so close to people from so many cultures”, a CCU student expressed and added: “This is the most exciting seminar of my studies.”
